Lamine Yamal has spoken out about what he’s been learning at Barcelona and specifically how he’s managing to play so many minutes for club and country.
The 17-year-old is a virtual ever present for Barca and Spain which has led to fears he could suffer from burnout and fatigue and may be more susceptible to injury.
However, Yamal says he’s learned to “manage myself” on the pitch and offered a bit of insight into this thinking.
“[I’m feeling] very good. I think one thing I have learned this year is how to manage myself. There are people who say: ‘Why don’t you move for 10 minutes?’ But at the end of the day, there are moments when you don’t have to run all the time,” he told ESPN.
“You have to know how to manage yourself during the game, during the season, to know during training what you have to do … So I think that’s something I’ve learned. And, to be honest, I am doing really well.
“That’s a difficult question,” he said when asked where he sees himself in 10 years. “[I’ll be] 27 [years old] … I think similar to now, going between the training ground and my house, and back to the training ground.”
Yamal’s comments echo those of Hansi Flick recently. The German coach has said he’s unwilling to rest the teenager because he’s confident he knows “how to manage the game.”
