Yankees vs. Padres weather forecast (5/5/25): Will Monday’s game be rained out?

UPDATE: The Yankees and Padres are in a rain delay on Monday evening. First pitch is now scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

NEW YORK — After a rain delay pushed back the start of Sunday’s series finale against the Rays, the Yankees have more inclement weather to deal with at Yankee Stadium early on this week.

The Padres are in town for a three-game set and Monday’s game will almost certainly be impacted by a rainy forecast in the Bronx.

As of Monday afternoon, Weather.com says there will be a 73 percent chance of showers around when first pitch is scheduled (7:05 p.m.) on Monday.

From about 7 p.m. until after midnight, the forecast calls for at least a 54 percent chance of rain in the area.

During his pregame media availability, manager Aaron Boone said he’s heard “mixed” reports about the Yankees and Padres getting their game in on Monday night. The Yankees announced that gates to Yankee Stadium are scheduled to open on time (5:30 p.m.), so until further updates, the game will proceed on schedule.

Left-hander Carlos Rodón is expected to start for the Yankees in the series opener — if they can get it in — with veteran righty Nick Pivetta on the mound for the Padres. Ex-Yankee Michael King is poised to get the ball against Clarke Schmidt on Tuesday. It’s unclear as of now how those plans could change if Monday’s game is delayed or postponed due to the rainy conditions that continue to pass through.

The Yankees sat through a rain delay that pushed Sunday’s game back 30 minutes. Rain was falling at times during the game, but it never got to be too bad. The Yankees went on to lose 7-5, the second consecutive rubber match they’ve dropped.
