Get ready to clock in for another grueling shift in The Pitt.
Viewers’ stress levels might skyrocket while watching the Max original series, but fans can’t get enough of the medical drama. The Pitt has even become one of Max’s top five original premieres ever, according to the platform.
The show follows Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle), a chief attending doctor leading his Pittsburgh emergency room staff through a hectic 15-hour shift. Each episode comprises one hour of the grueling stretch.
“I really wanted this show to happen,” Wyle told PEOPLE in March 2025. “I wanted to put this on the air, and I knew this was an important story to tell.”
“I don’t know that I’ve ever really forced myself to leave my comfort zone and act as aggressively and pursue something as I have with this,” the ER alum continued. “This was extremely important to me and I surprised myself with how far I was willing to go to make it happen and how hard I was willing to work.”
But with season 1’s shift now over, has the series been renewed for a second season? Here’s everything to know about The Pitt season 2 — including which doctors and nurses will return.

Yes, there will be a second season of The Pitt. The season 2 renewal was announced in February 2025, just a month after the series debuted on Jan. 9, 2025.
“From its powerful stories to its realistic set and unique real-time format, The Pitt is truly a masterclass in storytelling — and it’s all due to the talented team of executive producers and crew, and the incredible ensemble cast who truly embody the pace and pressure of a hospital emergency department,” Warner Bros. exec Channing Dungey said in the season 2 renewal announcement.
“[Executive producers] John, Noah, Scott and the team have so many more stories to tell, and we are thankful to our partners at Max for giving them the opportunity to do so,” Dungey added.

Season 2 of The Pitt will feature a time jump, taking place 10 months after the first season. It will also take place over a Fourth of July weekend, a notoriously dangerous holiday, executive producers R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells and Wyle revealed during a panel at Deadline‘s Contenders TV event on April 5.
Production is already underway, with Wyle attending writers room meetings, as he revealed in an April 2025 Esquire interview.
“We just have to make sure that wherever we take them, it’s grounded, believable, and in keeping with their characters,” the actor said about the upcoming sophomore season. “We don’t need to be too sensational. We don’t need to go out there and try to find a shark to jump. We just need to figure out how to stay true to our format and say, ‘Where would they be next? This is where they’d be next.’ “

The Pitt season 2 will premiere in January 2026, one year after its season 1 debut.
Like season 1, The Pitt‘s sophomore season is expected to document 15 hours at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Casey Bloys, the chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, pushed for The Pitt season 1 to have 15 episodes because “more episodes cuts down on the gap between seasons.”
“What I love about something like The Pitt is, I can get 15 episodes in a year,” Bloys told Vulture in March 2025. “That’s a really great addition to what we’re already doing on the platform. And I’d like to do more shows in this model.”

While there hasn’t been an official announcement on what other cast members will return, the season 1 Pitt players consisted of Wyle, Tracy Ifeachor, Katherine LaNasa, Patrick Ball, Fiona Dourif, Supriya Ganesh, Taylor Dearden, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez and Isa Briones.
During Deadline‘s Contenders TV panel, Wyle put out a casting notice for season 2, telling the audience: “We’re calling all pros.”
“We want people who are good with props and who are used to working in a company, with an ensemble,” he said. “We want creativity. We want passion. We don’t want ego coming to play. We have tremendous people showing up excited.”
