Described as a blend between Virgin River and Yellowstone, Netflix’s Ransom Canyon is resonating with Netflix viewers thanks to its mix of small-town romance and Western drama. As the freshman series climbs the streamer’s U.S. charts, you might be wondering whether a second season is in the works.
Ransom Canyon is based on the book series by bestselling author Jodi Thomas and follows the intertwined lives of three ranching families in Texas Hill Country. As they compete for control of the land, their legacies are put at risk by outside forces determined to upend their way of life.
The story centers on Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel), the owner and sole occupant of Double K Ranch, who is mourning the loss of his wife. The rancher’s only glimmer of hope is in the “eyes and heart of Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly), longtime family friend and owner of the local dancehall,” the synopsis reads. “But as the battle to save Ransom wages on, a mysterious cowboy drifts into town, dredging up secrets from the past.”

You don’t really know, are they or aren’t they, which I find super relatable.”
Just one day after the debut of the first season, Ransom Canyon has already claimed the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s U.S. TV chart. Here’s everything to know about a potential Ransom Canyon Season 2.

Netflix hasn’t officially renewed Ransom Canyon for Season 2 just yet, and the decision will likely depend on how well the first season performs on the platform. The promising news? Creator April Blair told Deadline the team is already “in the room” working on a second season, so there’s a good chance the series will be back.
Blair also told Tudum that she hopes viewers will want more episodes after watching the Season 1 finale. “My favorite feeling is when a show ends, and you don’t want it to end, and you just want more,” she said. “It makes you feel warm and familiar, and you don’t want to let go. That is how I hope people feel. It’s how I feel about the show watching it.”
The Ransom Canyon book series includes eight main novels, giving Netflix plenty of source material to pull from if the show is renewed for another season. The first book, Ransom Canyon, is followed by Rustler’s Moon, Lone Heart Pass, Sunrise Crossing, Wild Horse Springs, Indigo Lake, Mistletoe Miracles, and Christmas in Winter Valley.
As for who might return in Season 2, fans can likely expect to see Duhamel as Staten, Kelly as Quinn, Eoin Macken as Davis, Lizzy Greene as Lauren, Marianly Tejada as Ellie, Jack Schumacher as Yancy, Garrett Wareing as Lucas, Andrew Liner as Reid, and more.
