The Los Angeles Police Department said it shot Jillian Lauren Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, after she exited her house Tuesday afternoon and allegedly pointed a handgun at officers. She was later booked on suspicion of attempted murder.

Indie rock icons Weezer are scheduled to play the Coachella music festival this Saturday.

The bizarre confrontation happened Tuesday around 3:25 p.m. during a police search for three individuals in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles who were suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run, according to a Wednesday news release. Officers were searching the area and entered the backyard of one residence when they saw Jillian Lauren Shriner in a neighboring yard armed with a handgun.

Police said they told Shriner to drop the gun “numerous times,” but the 51-year-old refused to comply and instead allegedly pointed the gun at the officers, the release said. Officers then shot the woman, who fled back into her home. She later exited the home and was arrested and transported to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was absentee booked on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.

The shooting comes as Weezer is on a worldwide tour more than 30 years after their debut album, which launched them into the nerd rock cannon with hits like “My Name Is Jonas” and “Buddy Holly.” Coachella recently announced the band as a surprise act to this weekend’s festival with a planned Saturday afternoon set. Scott Shriner joined the band in 2001.

Jillian Lauren Shriner is a New York Times bestselling author and memoirist. She is being held on $1 million bail, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office booking log.
