Who is Vipraj Nigam, Delhi Capitals all-rounder who made IPL debut against Lucknow Super Giants

Leg-spinner all-rounder Vipraj Nigam grabbed eyeballs on his IPL debut for Delhi Capitals during the Indian Premier League 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday as he dismissed Aiden Markram. In his first over on debut, Nigam provided DC their first breakthrough after LSG’s quickfire start. South Africa batter Markram misread and miscued Nigam’s googly to Mitchell Starc stationed at long-on.

The young leggie was, however, taken down in his second over with Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran tonking him for four sixes combined. Nigam was unfortunate to not have dismissed Pooran after the left-hander’s miscued hit was dropped by Sameer Rizvi at point.

Chasing 210, Nigam redeemed himself with the bat, scoring a quick-fire 39 off 15 deliveries.

The 20-year-old Nigam from Uttar Pradesh was snapped up by Delhi for INR 50 lakh during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah last year.

Vipraj Nigam burst onto the scene during the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 T20 tournament. Nigam picked eight wickets at an economy of just over seven. Nigam also gained the limelight when he scored an eight-ball 27 while batting with Rinku Singh against Andhra to take his team past a 157-run target.

Nigan has featured in three First-Class matches for UP, recording 13 wickets. In five Vijay Hazare Trophy matches this season, Nigam snapped up four wickets at an economy of 5.
