Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy is 18 holes away from his first victory at the Masters. Throughout his storied career, Augusta National has proved an unsolvable puzzle for the Irishman. He’d played in the Masters 16 times prior to 2025, making the cut 13 times. Despite his solid record though, a championship has eluded him.
McIlroy has never won a green jacket. He’s never been invited to the ceremonial Masters dinner. He’s yet to achieve that coveted career grand slam that only five golfers have ever achieved. But now he’s just one great round away.
Heading into the fourth and final round today, McIlroy (-12) sits two shots up on second-place Bryson DeChambeau (-10) and seven strokes up on reigning champion Scottie Scheffler (-5). However, we’ve seen McIlroy blow a final round lead at the Masters before. McIlroy took a four-shot lead into the final round of the 2011 Masters before falling apart with a back-nine 43. Until he wins that green jacket, he might never be able to shake off that collapse. He has the opportunity to do so today, and any self-respecting golf fan does not want to miss it.
