Weather reversal for Southern California brings chance of rain Friday

After several days of well-above-average temperatures, sweater weather will return to Southern California with a chance of rain even arriving on Friday.

“We have temperatures today that are a little bit cooler. In fact, this week as a whole, we have cooler temperatures and even a chance of rain by the end of the week,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said Monday.

A strong onshore flow will also bring a thicker marine layer and a chance of overnight drizzle all week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

“Today, I think we’re looking at temperatures a little bit cooler, in the 60s for the most part for the rest of the week,” Henry said.

A chance of rain is also predicted to arrive late Thursday through Friday.

“A cold upper-level low-pressure system is forecast to bring showers to the area between Thursday night and Friday night,” the NWS said. “A thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, especially in the mountains and deserts on Friday.”

Forecasters are calling for between a 20% and 40% chance of showers Friday with the likeliness of rain becoming more defined as we get closer to the end of the week.

Higher pressure and warmer temperatures are expected to return for the weekend, with sunny skies forecast for Easter Sunday.

Campers and concertgoers headed to Coachella this weekend will have a much different experience than those who recently attended under triple-digit temperatures.

“I’m looking ahead to Coachella this weekend. Boy, it will be a completely different weekend forecast … You’re going to get a break this coming weekend. It will be about 15 degrees cooler out in the desert area,” Henry said.
