UPDATE: Evaucation order cleared near Dyno Nobel

12:39 P.M. UPDATE — An evacuation order near the Dyno Nobel plant south of Biwabik has been canceled, according to an alert received by residents around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday

The alert said the situation is now clear and a fire at the facility is contained.

There is no threat to the public, according to authorities.

There was no word on the extent of the fire or if any damage was done.

According to their website, Dyno Nobel is known for manufacturing commercial explosives used in the mining industry.

12:10 P.M. UPDATE – Evacuation notices have been sent to those within a one-mile radius of the Dyno Nobel plant south of Biwabik as crews respond to an incident at the plant Tuesday morning.

A resident in that area sent the evacuation alert they received around noon to Northern News Now.

Northern News Now is working to learn more about what kind of incident authorities are responding to, but the alert received by residents called it an “explosion risk” at Dyno Nobel.

BIWABIK, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Fire crews are responding to the Dyno Nobel plant near Biwabik Tuesday morning, a company that is known for manufacturing commercial explosives used in the mining industry.

According to Friends of the Northland FireWire, there were a number of law enforcement and fire crews on scene near 5392 Vermilion Trail in Biwabik as of 11:30 a.m.

There was no immediate confirmation of exactly what kind of situation fire crews are responding to.

Northern News Now has reached out to the Biwabik fire and police departments along with the St. Louis County Sheriff hoping to learn more information.
