Former LSU football star Kyren Lacy was found dead in Houston Saturday night at the age of 24, and UL coach Michael Desormeaux joined the list Sunday of prominent figures in Louisiana expressing sorrow over the news.
Lacy spent the first two seasons of his college career at UL before transferring to LSU ahead of the 2022 season. During his time in Lafayette, he caught 50 passes for 668 yards and 10 touchdowns.
On Sunday, Desormeaux posted his thoughts on Lacy’s death to social media.
“Hard to ever find the right words to say,” the UL coach said in his post. “I don’t think that there are ‘right words.’ Please join me in praying for all of Kyren’s former teammates and family members who are mourning his loss. A lot of our guys are hurting today.”

The 6-foot-2 Lacy, who was from Thibodaux, had a breakout season at LSU in 2024, pulling in 58 passes for 866 yards and nine touchdowns.
He was considered an NFL prospect, but Lacy faced charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle following his involvement in an automobile collision that killed one and injured two others on Dec. 17 in Lafourche Parish. His case was set to go before a grand jury on Monday.
Lacy’s attorney, Matthew Ory, has said that he believed his client was not responsible for the wreck and that he expected there to be a “declination of charges.”
The cause of Lacy’s death was not immediately available.
