The former president recently opened up about life after leaving the Oval Office, and it turns out he had a lot of rebuilding to do in his marriage.

“I was in a deep deficit with my wife, so I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things,” Obama said in an April 3 conversation with Hamilton College President Steven Tepper, per Katie Couric Media.
Before his comments about Michelle got plenty of laughs from the audience, Obama did discuss how he’s spending his time post-politics. “At the moment, I’m splitting time between the work for the foundation — Michelle and I set up the Obama Foundation to train the next generation of leaders here in the United States and around the world, and that keeps me busy,” he said. “I am also finishing the second half of my presidential memoirs..… People ask me, ‘Do you enjoy writing?’ I say, ‘Absolutely not,’ but I do enjoy having written when it’s finished. I’m hoping to get to the finish line on that.”
Michelle, who is keeping busy with a newly launched podcast alongside her brother, Craig Robinson, opened up last month about being reluctant to approve her husband’s run for office. “I couldn’t have gotten through eight years in the White House without my big brother,” she told Robinson on the first episode of their new podcast, IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson.
“You talked me into supporting his run,” she continued. “And he was smart enough to know that he needed to come to you and sell you on the idea.”
Michelle’s brother revealed the advice he gave his sister after agreeing to support his brother-in-law in his presidential run. “I said, ‘Let me talk to Miche,’” Robinson recalled. “And that’s when I came and talked to you and just gave you your advice that you had given me back, pretty much, about following your passion and doing the things you love.”
“I think the thing that pushed it over the top was I convinced you to not penalize him for being really good at what he does,” he said.
