James Gunn’s Superman, which will jumpstart a whole new cinematic DCU, is a mere few months away. But Warner Bros. and DC Studios have released an extended preview for the highly anticipated film, which gives us a full look at a scene only glimpsed in the trailer—Krypto the Superdog saving his master, Kal-El. The scene debuted at CinemaCon and will play before the Minecraft movie. Several moments we already saw from the trailer follow the Krypto scene, only with some dialogue added in. You can watch the Superman scene in full down below:
In the scene, Superman clearly has had his Kryptonian butt handed to him by an unknown enemy. He lands in the arctic, all bloody and battered, and whistles for his canine companion, Krypto. The adorable super pup eventually grabs his master’s cape and drags him at super speed to the Fortress of Solitude. The Fortress definitely has elements of the one made famous in Richard Donner’s Superman from 1978, but also has elements from DC Comics’ Silver Age Superman stories, like the giant door. The Man of Steel’s robot guards then attend to his injuries. This is another nod to the classic DC Comics stories. Alan Tudyk definitely voices one of the robots, who until now had a mystery role.
While in the Fortress, Superman heals from his injuries thanks to a massive dose of yellow sunlight. All amplified by Kryptonian technology, of course. The scene gives us so many classic Superman vibes, which have been missing from the last several iterations of his live-action adventures. The rest of the clips are extended versions of scenes from the first trailer. Although, we do get to hear Nicholas Hoult’s speaking voice as Lex Luthor for the first time. All of this has us, well, super excited for the return of the Last Son of Krypton to the big screen later this summer.
Superman arrives in theaters everywhere on July 11.
