UPDATE: A Tornado Warning has been issued for parts of Lake County, Indiana and Newton County in effect until 3 p.m.
GROUND STOP AT O’HARE: The FAA has issued a ground stop at Chicago O’Hare International Airport in effect until 3:45 p.m. as strong storms move across Chicagoland.
UPDATE: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect until 2:30 p.m. Sunday for northern Lake County, per the National Weather Service.
UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for much of Chicagoland, including the City of Chicago, until 7 p.m. Sunday. Included in the Tornado Watch are Cook, Grundy, Kankakee, Will, DuPage, Iroquois, Kendall, Ford, Kane and Livingston counties.
An active weather pattern is in store for Chicagoland on Sunday, with strong to severe afternoon storms possible in some locations.
Temperatures will remain very mild, at least if you’re south of a very apparent cold front that’s creating a wide range in temps Sunday.
In Chicago, we’re going to be in the warm sector, with highs Sunday likely around 70 again.
Some non-severe storms were moving through northern areas early Sunday, but the main risk for severe weather will be from 2 to 7 p.m.
The highest chance for severe weather is in southern areas, especially in Northwest Indiana, where there’s an Enhanced Risk for severe weather.
All severe weather conditions are possible Sunday where the risk is highest, including high winds, hail and possible tornadoes. Wind gusts could peak at 50 to 60 miles per hour in locations impacted most by storms.
After the storms move through, temps will drop significantly, with snow showers even possible early Monday.
After a chilly start to the work week on Monday and Tuesday, temps spike back into the mid-60s by Wednesday, with another chance for strong to severe storms.
Temps look to settle into a pretty seasonal range for the end of the coming work week, including on Friday for the Cubs’ home opener at Wrigley Field.
