Spotify Down: Users Report Widespread Streaming Outages

Spotify was experiencing widespread technical issues Wednesday, as thousands of users reported problems accessing the streaming service.

As of 9:16 a.m. ET, more than 40,000 users had logged complaints with uptime-monitoring site Downdetector.com about Spotify, indicating they were have issues with the Spotify app and website. Error reports on the site about Spotify began to spike at around 8:55 a.m. ET.

The official Spotify Status account on X indicated the company is aware of the problems. “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!” the account posted at 8:45 a.m. ET.

Some Spotify users in the U.S. who tried to access the site saw a 502 HTTP error message that said, “Server Error. The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request. Please try again in 30 seconds.” In the Spotify app, the search function was not working and attempts to play back music and podcasts were unsuccessful. Content that was cached or downloaded in users’ apps like songs and playlists were still accessible.

Reps for Spotify did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
