Things have quieted down here in the U.S., so I just did a quick scan of retailers in the U.K. and it’s equally quiet over there. It’s well into the evening hours in the U.K., so I don’t expect to see any restocks till maybe tomorrow morning. In the meantime, you can check out the links below.

2025-04-24T19:08:37.233ZIt’s official: GameStop is out of Switch 2 pre-orders. However, they’ve mentioned on X that they’re still taking pre-orders in-store. (Your mileage may vary on that as I’m sure retail stores have also sold out).

Yup! Walmart is back. I’m seeing the Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle coming in and out of stock. Personally, I haven’t been able to add it to my cart, but just sharing in case you have better luck than I.

It appears that Walmart Switch 2 stock has also gone silent. They started releasing pre-orders in waves minutes into the GameStop drop, but I’ve been checking Walmart’s site the past 30 minutes and no consoles have shown up in stock for me.

2025-04-24T17:03:08.566ZIt’s just after 1pm (ET) here in New York. I haven’t seen any GameStop Switch 2 stock for the past 30 minutes or so. My hunch is that Switch 2 pre-orders are now OOS at GameStop.

Walmart has also gone quiet for me as well. That said, I’m keeping an eye on both of them should pre-order stock return.

Looks like there’s still some Switch 2 pre-order inventory left at Walmart. I keep seeing the page alternate from “out of stock” to “pre-order.” You may see a “try again” pop-up after hitting that pre-order button, but keep trying.

Hello! It’s just after 12pm (ET) here in New York. If you’re just joining us, I’m Louis deals editor here at Tom’s Guide. Here’s a quick recap of where things stand with Switch 2 pre-orders right now.

  • Switch 2 pre-orders went live at midnight in the U.S.
  • It was a madhouse at some retailers, but folks got their consoles
  • Amazon U.S. remains silent on Switch 2 pre-orders
  • GameStop pre-orders started at 11 a.m. (ET)
  • After massive glitches, some GameStop customers got to pre-order consoles
  • Walmart did a stealth restock (now OOS)

2025-04-24T16:08:06.589ZI just did another retailer sweep. I’m seeing Walmart OOS at the moment with no other signs of Switch 2 restock at other retailers. However, I recommend keeping a sharp eye on Walmart. They might release more stock throughout the hour.

2025-04-24T15:57:42.058ZWalmart just restocked the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle. Go, go, go!

2025-04-24T15:56:07.022ZI know we’ve all been saying that the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle is the console to get (because you save a few bucks vs buying them separately), however, I think it might be slightly easier to score the standalone Switch 2 console.

It’s just a hunch of mine, but I think everyone is after the bundle, which means your chances of getting a Switch 2 might increase a smidgen if you go for the standalone console.

11:51am (ET): More success! Rory was also able to get a Switch 2 added to his cart. So if you’re still getting error messages/pages, keep trying. It appears the tide is changing.

11:46am (ET): Success! Right after seeing that “transmission problems” page I did a refresh and saw the red “not available” button. I clicked it a few times (just to see what would happen) and I got through! But just like a responsible fisherman….I released it back into the wild. Go get yours now!

11:42am (ET): If you see this message, don’t panic. Refresh and you might get lucky!

2025-04-24T15:39:23.079Z11:39am (ET): I’m Slacking with Tom’s Guide senior editor Rory Mellon (who is a restock pro and has been leading our Switch 2 pre-order coverage) and he brings up a good point.

There’s a chance that GameStop got crushed at 11am (ET) and hasn’t even released ANY Switch 2 consoles yet. So keep trying even though things looks bleak right now.

2025-04-24T15:35:59.437Z11:35am (ET): I just did another sweep of retailers. All quiet elsewhere. No one has taken advantage of this opportunity to drop Switch 2 stock.

11:30am (ET): And we’re down yet again, my friends!

2025-04-24T15:25:50.359Z11:25am (ET): Ok, so it looks like it’s game over, right. Maybe, maybe not. Retailers have the habit of releasing more inventory after their initial wave of stock is depleted. So hang tight, don’t give up yet.

2025-04-24T15:21:41.106Z

11:21am (ET): So it looks like GameStop is loading again for me…..but both consoles are sold out.

2025-04-24T15:19:33.547Z11:19am (ET): GameStop’s website is (sorta) back, but I’m still not seeing a buy/pre-order now button…all I can do is stare at the console….sadly…..waiting for it to be added to cart….

2025-04-24T15:16:48.427Z11:16am (ET): While I wait for GS to get its house in order, I’ve done a quick scan of other major retailers. No one else has restocked. You can check below as well….

2025-04-24T15:13:09.255Z11:13am ET: I’m still getting an error page at GameStop….right about now is when you should try the app.

2025-04-24T15:09:40.930Z

11:09am (ET): Well, at least the site is (sorta) back up…but still no access to the console(s).

2025-04-24T15:04:24.080Z11:04 am (ET): And GS is still down. I’m talking the entire site here….

2025-04-24T15:00:56.630Z

And I’m getting a big FAT “bad gateway” page from GameStop right now….

Less than 5 minutes left for today’s GameStop Switch 2 pre-order drop. Here are those all-important links again. There’s also talk that customers can already pre-order via the GameStop app. (So def try there if you haven’t logged on already).

G’luck, everyone!

2025-04-24T14:42:39.371ZAs we wait for GameStop, I just did a quick sweep of Switch 2 pre-order stock in the UK and it’s all quiet across the pond. That Switch 2 Mario Kart World console is OOS again at Amazon UK. That said, if you wanna poke around yourself — here are those links:

2025-04-24T14:30:50.461ZWe know that GameStop is confirmed for 11 a.m. (ET). But could we see drops from other retailers today? Tbh, no one knows. There’s a chance that other retailers like Walmart or Best Buy might do a drop at 11 a.m. (ET) just to steal some of GameStop’s thunder, buttttt that’s just a guess.

If stock was really depleted last night/this morning, then GameStop might be the only retailer with Switch 2 action come 11 a.m. (ET). But don’t worry, I have browser tabs open for every retailer and then some.

We’re less than an hour away from GameStop’s Switch 2 pre-order drop. So right about now is when you should log into your GameStop account, make sure your credit card info/address is up to date, and double check that you’re good to go come 11 a.m. (ET).

Here are the breakout pages you’ll need below:

Ohhhh, Nintendo. The gaming giant has updated its pre-order page with a statement saying it may not be able to deliver your Switch 2 console by the June 5th launch date as originally planned.

“Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store,” reads the statement. “Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We’ll confirm your shipping date upon purchase.”

Over 2.2 million people signed up for Switch 2 pre-orders in Japan and while we don’t have official numbers for the U.S. yet, it seems like demand is gonna be higher than expected. Well, higher than what Nintendo expected.

2025-04-24T13:44:31.857ZHappy Thursday, everyone! Deals editor Louis hopping onboard our Switch 2 pre-order live blog for the day. If you’re just joining us, here’s a quick recap of where we stand right now and what’s up ahead…

  • Pre-orders finally went live at midnight in the U.S.
  • It was a madhouse at some retailers, but folks got their consoles
  • Amazon U.S. remains silent on Switch 2 pre-orders
  • Amazon UK has Switch 2 Mario Kart World stock again right now
  • GameStop is confirmed to drop pre-orders at 11 a.m. (ET) today
  • Other U.S. retailers could also release more pre-order stock

2025-04-24T13:33:53.029ZIt only lasted 5 minutes, but the Switch 2 pre-orders at Amazon UK are now gone (again). Hopefully some got their hands on them, but it shows it’s worth keeping an eye on Amazon and other retailers for a surprise pre-order restock!

2025-04-24T13:28:21.036ZMore stock has arrived at Amazon UK, so get your pre-orders in while the Switch 2 is still available!

2025-04-24T13:12:37.387Z

Turns out the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera is a hot commodity, as the accessory is currently sold out over at Walmart and GameStop! This is all part of the Switch 2’s new GameChat feature, so it’s clear many are looking to play with friends online and have their faces involved.

Not to worry, as the Switch 2 Camera is still available to pre-order at Best Buy for $54 if you’re interested in trying out Nintendo’s GameChat. Although, if you’re planning on using one, it’s looking like it’s best to land your purchase now rather than later — considering it’s sold out at other major retailers.

2025-04-24T12:43:52.326Z

Sam’s Club is another retailer worth keeping tabs on, as it has a listing page of the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart Bundle. Much like Newegg, there’s no time when this may go live, but it could be the dark horse when actually landing a Switch 2!

Since many retailers are putting out pre-orders today, it’s expected that Sam’s Club will do the same. For now, it’s up in the air when pre-orders will be available at the retailer, so keep that page refreshed to keep your chances up.

2025-04-24T12:16:52.916Z

Along with GameStop, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are set to kick off today over at Newegg, although no specific time has been given on when to expect stock.

Nothing is certain, but it could be around the same time as GameStop at 11 a.m. ET today. Keep these pages refreshed to make sure you can swipe one once the consoles do become available. In the meantime, we’ll keep an eye on pre-order stocks as they happen!

2025-04-24T11:46:27.243Z

After having another peek around, retailers are again out of stock. But there’s another chance coming up if you didn’t manage to nail one, so you’ll want to keep your eye’s glued to GameStop at 11 a.m. ET.

You can sign up to be notified to get your orders in as soon as it comes out, but since it’s been confirmed, it’s best to keep the page open (and refreshed) once once the clock strikes 11 a.m. ET.

In the meantime, I’ll be keeping watch of any sneaky restocks!

2025-04-24T11:21:33.441ZWell they didn’t last long! The Game Collection and Amazon UK are out of stock again of Nintendo Switch 2 units. We’re keeping a close eye on other retailers to see if they’ve been waiting patiently for their own time to shine

2025-04-24T11:06:17.835ZUh oh! Looks like you all got a bit too keen. The Game Collection is hung when trying to refresh the page, so the demand is definitely outstripping the server space for the site.

Lucky for you, stock is available to get over on Amazon right now!

2025-04-24T11:03:42.875ZGo go go!

2025-04-24T11:01:23.222ZWe’re seeing some page loading issues. “500 Internal Server Error” kind of stuff. Keep trying!

2025-04-24T11:00:03.097Z

As promised, stock is now available! The site is experiencing some loading problems, so keep refreshing until you see the pre-order button. Good luck!

2025-04-24T10:45:08.998ZThe Game Collection is going to have stock drop at 12pm BST. Make sure you’ve got your account setup, payment details pre-saved and you’re ready to go!

2025-04-24T10:32:24.514Z

So Nintendo Switch 2 stock didn’t last long in the US, as preorders dried up fast. We’re talking to retailers to get confirmation on some restocks Stateside (GameStop is confirmed for 11am ET), but what about for my fellow Brits?

Well one restock is confirmed — The Game Collection will be dropping some new Switch 2s at 12pm BST (30 minutes from now).

Does this mean other retailers will be doing the same? I can’t say for sure, but if anything was clear from the previous stocking situations like the RTX 50-series GPUs, shops tend to move in packs. We’ll keep an eye on other retailers and let you know!

I know Mario Kart World is going to dominate the Switch 2 launch lineup – and you better believe I’ll be tearing up the Mushroom Kingdom tarmac with the best of them – but to be honest, the launch game I’m most hyped about is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (far too long a name!).

Why you asked? It’s not because I skipped it on the current Switch in 2023. Rather, I just can’t wait for Tears of the Kingdom on Switch 2 because I felt it was almost a practically flawless game, but the uneven framerate and generally poor image quality let it down somewhat. The aged Switch 1 hardware just couldn’t keep up.

In my review, I very nearly gave it a perfect 5/5 score, but I simply couldn’t justify it with the often poor texture quality, low draw distance and an unstable framerate. But, being able to return to this masterpiece at 60 fps? Sign me up, please!

Some exciting news for our readers in my native U.K., our good friends over at TechRadar have received word that gaming retailer The Game Collection will be holding a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order restock at 12 p.m. BST today (April 24).

The retailer warns that it will be “limited,” but this could be a great chance to grab yourself a Switch 2 pre-order if you missed the flurry of U.K. restocks we’ve seen over the past few weeks. Below are the links you’ll need in less than two hours.

I think it’s fair to say that most people who pick up a Switch 2 at launch will be hopping into a kart for the latest Mario racer, but the game that is really getting the TG offices talking is actually Donkey Kong Bananza.

This new title represents the first 3D DK adventure since Donkey Kong 64 back in 1999, and will allow the fan-favorite ape to smash through entire levels. Yup, you can lay waste to just about everything. You can even tunnel through the floor.

Naturally, as it’s a Nintendo-developed 3D platformer, the game will also focus on collecting just about every shiny object you can find. But rather than amassing loads of stars or power moons, DK will be on the hunt for golden bananas.

Donkey Kong Bananza won’t be landing in time for launch, but shortly afterwards, on July 17. It’s set to be one of the Switch 2’s first major post-launch games, and I have a gut feeling it might be an early frontrunner for best Switch 2 game.

During the rush to pre-order the Switch 2, you may not have had time to pick up any accessories, so now is the time to circle back and lock in some extras.

My colleague, Anthony Spadafora, recently went hands-on with the new Switch 2 Pro Controller and came away particularly impressed with its new remappable back buttons. I already have the base Pro controller (which will be compatible with Switch 2), but this upgraded version is really testing my willpower.

2025-04-24T08:15:39.212ZSome Switch 2 orders are being cancelled at Target and Walmart seems to be delaying some orders out to June 10Keep an eye on your email pic.twitter.com/sbx5JycA87April 24, 2025

We’d already seen numerous reports of Target canceling pre-orders just minutes after they were placed, but I’ve just seen claims that Walmart is notifying some customers that their freshly-placed Switch 2 order may not arrive on launch day.

If you managed to lock in a Switch 2 pre-order at Walmart earlier today, you might want to check your emails to see if you’ve been among the unlucky ones to get a delayed notification. However, even if you are, I would still advise keeping hold of your pre-order for now. Better to have a delayed pre-order than none at this stage.

It’s approaching four hours since Switch 2 pre-orders began in the U.S., and as predicted, the console has proved extremely popular (despite the grumbling about the price!). Here’s where we currently stand across the major retailers:

Walmart – Stock has been popping up and disappearing over the past hour or so. While I’m currently seeing “sold out,” it’s worth a refresh as the blue “preorder” button has been coming and going frequently.

Target – After restocking the Mario Kart bundle following the initial wave selling out, Target now appears to be completely out of stock, but I’m watching out for any more waves.

Best Buy – Best Buy offered the largest selection of Switch 2 bundles, and it also didn’t start taking pre-orders until 30 minutes past midnight. Currently, all bundles are sold out, but again, I’m watching like a hawk for restocks

Amazon – Amazon has yet to show any indications it will take Switch 2 pre-orders. The retailer hasn’t even launched a listing page at this stage. It’s a strange one.

GameStop – GameStop is still on schedule to launch its Switch 2 pre-orders at 11 a.m. ET later today (April 24). It’s also set to take pre-orders in-store, so check the opening times of your local branch. But be aware, there are reports of queues already forming outside several stores, so you may need to get moving ASAP.

2025-04-24T07:23:36.922Z

Amazon has been the biggest mystery of the Switch 2 pre-order period so far. The online mega retailer hasn’t even launched a listing page, leading to some online speculation that Amazon might not even take any Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders.

Only time will tell if the above is true, but Amazon has just launched pre-order pages for various Sega games that are set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 in June. This includes Sonic x Shadows Generations, which was very recently confirmed to be a launch title. The others are Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S and Raidou Remastered – The Mystery of the Soulless Army.

2025-04-24T07:04:29.221ZWalmart is currently jumping between “preorder” and “sold out” upon each refresh, so it’s likely that whatever remaining stock is available is very much limited. If you’re still trying to pre-order a Switch 2, get over there now…

2025-04-24T06:47:24.193Z

Here at Tom’s Guide we really detest scalpers, so the above picture has certainly not improved my mood this morning. It looks like while all the major retailers are now sold out of pre-orders (or at least, are shifting the final few units), scalpers are already taking to resale sites to sell Switch 2 at a huge mark up ($325 in this case).

If you missed out during this first pre-order wave, I strongly urge you to resist any temptation to go down the route of overpaying to a scalper. Stick with us here at Tom’s Guide and we’ll alert you to any restocks today, and over the weeks ahead.

2025-04-24T06:32:03.371Z

Like I said, “sold out” doesn’t always mean “sold out.” Walmart has restocked the Nintendo Switch 2, I’m seeing that glorious little blue “preorder” button right now…

If the Switch 2 pre-order luck wasn’t with you during this midnight ET drop, a second chance to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 will be along very shortly.

GameStop will be taking pre-orders from 11 a.m. ET today (April 24) and in-store from your local opening time. So, be sure to pre-save those links below. Naturally, we’ll keep this live blog running through the rest of the day to flag any restocks and to alert you the moment GameStop’s pre-order event begins in a few hours.

2025-04-24T06:10:32.566Z

Best Buy appears to be also reaching the end of the road for its Switch 2 pre-order stock (though, I did speak too soon when it came to Target earlier…)

I’m now getting a sold-out notification at the retailer after finally getting to the end of the virtual line. Meanwhile, Target has also (again) sold out of the Mario Kart Bundle, so the available pre-order field is getting extremely thin at this point.

2025-04-24T05:59:10.803Z

Walmart is now reading “sold out” for both the standalone Switch 2 and the Mario Kart bundle. You may have success if you stick with it, but as we’re approaching the two-hour mark since pre-orders went live, there’s a good chance “sold out” right now does mean the stock has been snapped up at this point in the game.

However, hope is not lost for the night owls still with me here (or anybody on the West Coast). Keep trying over at Target, where the Mario Kart bundle just got restocked, and Best Buy’s virtual queue is still active, suggesting there’s still stock.

2025-04-24T05:46:16.743Z

Well, don’t I look a bit silly! Just as I thought Target was fully sold out of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, the retailer has found some extra Switch 2 Mario Kart Bundle stock down the back of the couch. I’m able to add the bundle to my cart, so get over there now, and get yours secured if you want to pick up this $499 package.

2025-04-24T05:37:18.426Z

While I always caution that “sold out” notifications can be misleading as retailers often drop waves of pre-order stock, in the case of Target, it’s looking like all the available units have been snapped up at this point.

It’s been more than 30 minutes since Switch 2 pre-orders were available at the retailer, and the “out of stock” warning simply isn’t shifting. If you’re still trying to get yourself a Switch 2 pre-order, you’ll want to try Walmart and Best Buy instead.

2025-04-24T05:15:34.834Z

I’m getting an error message whenever I attempt to add Switch 2 to my cart at Walmart, which could be a sign that the retailer’s stock allocation has been snapped up. However, social media suggests some people are still getting through, so until the blue “preorder” button is greyed out I say keep trying…

2025-04-24T04:58:20.697Z

The virtual queue at Walmart appears to have ended, and now you can just hop directly onto the retailer’s Switch 2 listing page. So it’s a good place to try now…

2025-04-24T04:52:55.193ZMan @Target is brutal for Switch 2 pre orders.System was in my cart, then it wasn’t, then it was, wouldn’t let me pay, etc.Anyone having any luck elsewhere?April 24, 2025

If you’re struggling to get through and secure your Switch 2 console right now, you’re not alone! Even the Game Awards creator, and all-around video game hype man, Mr. Geoff Keighley, appears to be struggling to get his console pre-order!

Remember, don’t give up; the process can be frustrating, but stock is often dropped in waves, so just because you see a “sold out” message at first doesn’t mean you should consider your shot gone. Keep trying at all three retailers below.

2025-04-24T04:39:24.058Z

Much like Walmart, Best Buy has opted for a virtual queue system, so you’ll need to practice a little patience, but it does appear shoppers are getting through and being able to place a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order at this stage. Keep trying!

Target canceling Switch 2 orders left and right.April 24, 2025

I’m seeing various users on social media claiming that Target has canceled their Switch 2 pre-order, just minutes after placing it. I can’t personally verify if this is accurate or the specific reason. However, my best guess, would be that it may be related to shoppers attempting to place multiple orders. Most retailers have a “1 unit per customer” rule, and they won’t be shy about enforcing it, so don’t get greedy and attempt to place a pre-order for several Switch 2’s at the same time.

2025-04-24T04:31:09.618Z

Nice of you to join us Best Buy! After a 30 minute delay, the electronic specialist has gone live with it’s Switch 2 pre-orders, the little yellow button is active. Head over there right now, and get your console secured if you haven’t already yet.

2025-04-24T04:23:48.430Z

After crashing, Target is back online, and I’m able to add the Switch 2 to my cart, so if you’re still on the hunt for a pre-order, get yourself over to the big red retailer right now!

2025-04-24T04:19:12.339ZThe 3 retailers dropping right now are Walmart, Target and Best Buy (the latter hasn’t offered up any stock as of yet). Do not head over to GameStop, as the retailer is holding back its stock until 11 a.m. ET today (April 24). As for Amazon? Bizarrely, the mega retailer doesn’t even have a Switch 2 listing page, so at present, we can’t even for sure say it will take Switch 2 pre-orders at any point.

2025-04-24T04:09:42.113Z

Best Buy looks to have recovered from it’s brief crash, but as of yet it doesn’t appear that Switch 2 pre-orders have gone live, so I’m keeping a close watch on the retailer. Meanwhile, Walmart has opened a virtual queue, and people are getting through. Target’s site has crashed, but the app is reportedly working.

2025-04-24T04:04:30.822ZIt’s not just Target that has crashed, it appears that Best Buy’s servers are struggling to cope with the demand. I’m getting an error whenever I attempt to visit the site. If you can’t access the site, try using the Best Buy app instead.

2025-04-24T04:01:57.545ZWe knew it was a possibility, but Target has buckled under the weight of so many people looking to pre-order the Switch 2. But don’t give up, the retailer will come back online shortly, so keep trying to get through and get your Switch 2 pre-order

While Walmart and Target appear to be just stocking the Switch 2 and the official Mario Kart bundle, Best Buy has listings for various “packages” that bundle together the Nintendo Switch 2 console with accessories and launch games.

These are priced at the combined MSRP of the items. Some seem like a solid pick-up, like this one for $534, which includes a Pro controller. Then there’s a bundle costing an eye-watering $719. It may include four games (Mario Kart, Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom and Donkey Kong Bananza) alongside the console, but still, that’s quite the investment in the Nintendo Switch 2 out of the gate.

There’s also a bundle that includes the Switch 2 and separate Mario Kart World game, but rather than being $499 like the official bundle, it’s priced at $529, so that’s one to avoid if you do opt to try and pre-order the Switch 2 at Best Buy.

We’ve got just 30 minutes to wait until Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders begin at retailers including Walmart, Target and Best Buy. Now is the time to make those last minute account checks. Ensure you can log in to your retailer accounts, and double (maybe triple) check your shipping and payment information is updated.

At midnight ET, you’re going to want to be able to sail through check out without any hitches, so it’s worth putting in that prep time now. It could be the difference between locking in a Switch 2 pre-order tonight, and leaving empty handed.

2025-04-24T03:22:32.659ZGameStop stores are starting to post how many Switch 2 they have available on the door now! This is my store! 64 total available, 44 Mario kart bundles and 20 regular.Share your stores inventory in the replies 👇 pic.twitter.com/Bt1mpNDTMFApril 23, 2025

Hello! Rory here, jumping back into this live blog to guide you through Switch 2 pre-orders as we rapidly approach 12 a.m. ET. After all this waiting, it’s almost time for Nintendo’s new console to be made available in the U.S.

As spotted by stock tracker Jake Randall, it looks like some GameStop stores are confirming the number of Switch 2 units they will have available in-store. For example, Randall’s local GameStop will have 20 standalone units and 44 Mario Kart Bundles. Remember, these stock numbers refer specifically to in-store.

However, for those hoping to shop online, this might be an indication that GameStop will have more Mario Kart bundles than standalone consoles, so you may want to consider opting for the $499 bundle when online pre-orders kick off for the best chance. GameStop Switch 2 pre-orders start at 11 a.m. ET on April 24.

There are two big first-party titles that will be “launch” titles for the Switch 2: Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.

Yes, the newest DK platformer won’t launch until July 17, six weeks after the release of the Switch 2, but it’s basically a launch title.

Meanwhile, Mario Kart World will be heavily featured in the first official Nintendo Switch 2 bundle and likely to remain a bundle for the remainder of the Switch 2 lifecycle, similar to Mario Kart 8.

We did a deep dive on the game in concert with a recent Nintendo Direct that revealed more about the latest Mario racer.

Mario Kart will sell consoles, and the newest title adds enough wrinkles and exciting new modes to make us want to get behind the wheel and throw some shells.

When Nintendo revealed a number of accessories for the Switch 2, they already had prices attached.

However, late last week, the company announced new adjustments that it blamed on “market conditions.” Which it’s likely are due to the volatile tariffs enacted by the Trump administration.

If you missed the change here are the differences:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller – $84.99 (was $79.99)
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair – $94.99 (was $89.99)
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip – $39.99 (was $34.99)
  • Joy-Con 2 Strap – $13.99 (was $12.99)
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set – $24.99 (was $19.99)
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera – $54.99 (was $49.99)
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set – $119.99 (was $109.99)
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector – $39.99 (was $34.99)

We’ve had a couple of opportunities to get early looks at the Switch 2 thanks to Nintendo events.

Our most recent visit lasted two hours and we found the console to be a “much-needed and well-crafted evolution.”

What we liked:

  • The screen is massive improvement especially the larger size
  • Joy-Con 2s feel more secure with the new design
  • The redesigned Pro Controller is a must have
  • More third-party games

There were some flaws, beyond just the high price.

Though some might just need the right game to bring us around.

Here’s what we didn’t like:

  • Not quite sold on the mouse mode
  • Will GameChat be a gamechanger or just annoying?
  • Game prices are going to bite
  • Where’s the Breath of the Wild moment?

During the Nintendo Direct on April 2, we were able to go hands on with the Switch 2.

We described the Switch 2 as a bit step up from the original Switch. Though we did ding it for a lack of OLED display and the higher price on both the console and the games.

“The Nintendo Switch 2 builds on the strong foundation of its predecessor with plenty of upgrades and new features,” my colleague Anthony Spadafora wrote. While wondering if the new games would be enough to warrant a pre-order.

Amazon: check pre-order info.

In the U.K. Amazon used an invitation system, but we don’t know if they’ll do the same for U.S. customers.

As we’ve seen with the Switch 2, pre-ordering can be volatile with things changing at the drop of a hat. Remember, the console was supposed to be available starting April 9 before being delayed to April 24.

To make sure you’re in the know, it’s good follow a few restock tracking social media accounts. There’s plenty out there, more than I can list, but some that I’ve found very reliable over the years include Jake Randall and Matt Swider of The Shortcut.

A popular one is Wario64, but they also post a lot of links to deals across the internet, so you’ll need to sort through a lot of posts to find the information you’re looking for.

Of course, keep an eye on Tom’s Guide as well as we provide up-to-the-minute Switch 2 pre-order updates.

In this live blog, we’ve got all the latest information you’ll need, and also those all-important retailer links. We’ll be flagging all the pre-order drops and restocks as they go live, and will be offering up even more helpful buying tips and advice to ensure you get yourself a Switch 2 secured for launch this June.

Over the years we’ve learned that “Sold Out” doesn’t always meant “sold out.”

It’s common for retailers to release waves of stock for highly sought after items. It helps ease the burden on servers and prevent pages from crashing as people all try to check out at once.

We expect the Switch 2 to be quite popular if pre-orders around the globe are to be believed.

It might be a test of endurance, but if you stick around and refresh the various listing pages, you might have the best chance to score your next console.

The main bundle you’ll see is the official Mario Kart World bundle which will come with digital code for the latest Mario racing game.

That bundle will sell for $500 (the Switch 2 by itself is $450).

Bundles help save some money on games, but aren’t cheap.

We saw during U.K. pre-orders that some retailers made bespoke Switch 2 bundles that combined official accessories like the Switch 2 Camera and the updated Pro Controller.

There’s no guarantee that retailers in the U.S. will offer similar bundles, but during the PS5 launch and restock nightmare we saw several U.S. retailers create bundles.

It wouldn’t surprise us if they take a similar approach, and it could save you some money on accessories, at a larger up front cost.

Nintendo is dropping a ton of accessories alongside the new console including redesigned Pro Controller and an official Switch 2 Camera.

Those shiny toys might grab your attention but make sure you secure your Switch 2 console before grabbing any accessories or launch games.

Our recommendation? Wait.

Accessories and games tend to sell slower during pre-order events. So there will be time to pick them up.

So, get your console locked in and then circle back for extra goodies after.

We’re mere hours away from the pre-order time going live.

One way to ensure you get your console settled with your retailer of choice is to ensure you have created an online account for each retailer where you hope to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2.

For example, if you prefer Best Buy or GameStop, make sure you have an account made and that you’re logged in before the the pre-order window starts.

If global pre-orders are anything to go by, it’ll be a scramble to lock one in and you don’t want to fumble around creating an account or forgetting your password.
