Hats made a comeback at the 2025 Met Gala.
This year’s Met Gala theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Excellence,” with the accompanying dress code “Tailored to You.” And while there were many examples of Black excellence on display on fashion’s biggest night — and a few misfires — one theme was constant: hats are trending.
A part of this was due to some suggestions to guests from Vogue, which noted that “menswear staples, such as hats, ties, and perhaps canes, brooches, and pocket squares, are likely to have a strong showing too.” The recommendation proved prescient, as the Met Gala’s blue carpet witnessed a parade of over-the-top hats, bowlers, bonnets, baseball caps, and even a motorcycle helmet.
