4:59: The Broncos are back in front! On a 3-on-2, Alex Bump’s initial shot creates chaos in front of the net and Cole Crusberg-Roseen is there to blast one home from the circle. That was Crusberg-Roseen’s third goal of the season.

8:20: BU kills off the WMU power play. The Terriers are back to full strength.

10:27: Western Michigan gets its first power play opportunity. BU’s Quinn Hutson is charged with a slashing penalty on WMU’s Alex Bump.

12:48: Boston gets its equalizer. A loose puck in front of Slukynsky’s net was never froze, and allowed Cole Eiserman is there to poke it in. It’s a 1-all hockey game, plenty of action so far.

18:22: Western scores quickly! Wyatt Schingoethe tips in a goal sent in from an initial shot by Iiro Hakkarainen. The Broncos take an early 1-0 lead on their first shot of the game.

Here’s a look at Hakkarainen’s goal, courtesy of WMU hockey’s social account.

That was Scingoethe’s fifth goal of the season –– the senior last scored against St. Cloud St. back on March 15.

The resumes are almost opposites.

20:00: Puck drop is here!

Western Michigan hockey has never been on the NCAA national championship stage –– it’s the program’s first-ever Frozen Four in a season full of firsts. The Broncos’ hockey program hasn’t won a national title ever and are looking for their first athletic national championship since 1965, when the men’s cross country team won it all.

Meanwhile, Boston University, will be making its 12th national championship game appearance and is looking for its sixth title in program history. The Terriers have made the Frozen Four three straight times and have appeared in 25 Frozen Fours.

Again, stark contrasts between these two squads.

But the Broncos haven’t lost since March 1, tallying up 40 goals during a nine-game winning streak. Alex Bump is WMU’s leading goal scorer (23) but has yet to find a goal in the tournament.

Cole Eiserman leads the Terriers with 24 goals but the combination of brothers Quinn and Cole Hutson are also names to watch –– they’ve combined to lead the team with 97 points.
