Jenna Ortega owned the 2025 Met Gala red carpet.

On Monday, May 5, the 22-year-old Wednesday star arrived at fashion’s biggest night in a silver bodycon strapless gown with a cheeky twist on the evening’s “Tailored for You” dress code.

Ortega hit the red carpet in a Balmain gown made entirely out of metal rulers. The dress featured a plunging strapless neckline that showed a hint of cleavage.

“A poetical ode to couture and craftsmanship, her sleek sheath dress is crafted entirely from the metallic rulers used by pattern makers, placed vertically along the body to enhance the silhouette to create a bustier gown sculpted on her body,” reads an official release from the brand.

The actress completed her look with vampy glam, wearing her brunette hair in Old Hollywood-inspired waves parted down the middle. She kept her complexion fresh and paired it with a deep burgundy lip color, plus smoky gray eyeshadow on her lids.

Vogue shared details on the 2025 Met Gala last October, announcing that Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would be co-chairs for the event, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair.

The annual gala, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in N.Y.C. on the first Monday in May, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the theme for the gala.

Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton said that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”

The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.

Ortega has attended the Met Gala twice before, making her debut in 2022 and following it up with another appearance in 2023.

For the latter, the actress channeled her titular Wednesday character with not one but two looks, arriving on the red carpet in a gothic-inspired ensemble and later transforming it for an afterparty.

For the actual event, titled “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star rocked an intricate black-and-white Thom Browne corset dress — and details were everything.

Ortega’s gothic gown was complete with a gravity-defying, asymmetrical skirt with a ruffled — and almost shredded — appearance and a pop of gold courtesy of chain details draped across the folds. Meanwhile, on top, her black corset popped against a white collared undershirt.

The ensemble also featured a black, bolero-style suit jacket draped with gold chains and a bow featuring a black-and-white flower at the center. Additional accessories included white fingerless gloves and a pair of towering platform spectator shoes teamed with sheer knee-high socks.

Ortega wore her hair — a subtle auburn ombré at the time — in a chic half-up, half-down look, and for makeup, rocked a subdued black cat-eye liner look and blush-colored lip.

For her second look of the night, the Death of a Unicorn actress ditched the large skirt and jacket for a more casual — and afterparty-friendly — look, revealing the black corset top to be a minidress. She wore the dress over the same white long-sleeve undershirt and bow.

She also kept her footwear the same, but added a boxy, black Thom Browne handbag adorned with gold hardware.

Compared to her 2023 look, Ortega’s 2022 Met Gala debut was practically unrecognizable. For her first time at the event, the star showcased a Barbie-pink interpretation of the year’s theme, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.”

The Scream actress wore a head-to-toe pink Valentino look including a glittery mesh minidress, which she layered over a bandeau top and tights, all in the same neon shade.

She topped off the debut look with a pair of matching pink pumps, earrings and hair accessories, and for her lip — you guessed it — a glossy pink finish.
