Is former Eagles QB already on hot seat with new team?

Former Eagles quarterback Kenny Pickett has been with the Cleveland Browns for just one month, and he could already face competition for the starting job.

The Browns announced Friday that it signed veteran quarterback Joe Flacco. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Flacco agreed to a one‑year deal worth $4 million, though incentives could boost his total to as much as $13 million. This will be his second stint with the team; he played for Cleveland during the 2023 season, appearing in five games and throwing for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The Browns’ quarterback situation remains unsettled. Deshaun Watson—who signed a five‑year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract with the team in 2022—has fallen out of favor and is still recovering from a torn Achilles tendon and there is a chance he does not play this season.

Cleveland holds the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft and has been mentioned as a possible landing spot for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The Browns also have the 33rd overall pick, the first selection in the second round, which could be used to draft a quarterback.

Pickett appeared in five games for the Eagles last season and started in the NFC East–clinching game against the Dallas Cowboys. He completed 59.5 percent of his passes (25 of 42) for 291 yards, two touchdowns and one interception before being traded to Cleveland in March in exchange for quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round pick. The addition of Flacco sets up a potential training camp competition for the starting job.
