Halle Berry made a triumphant return to the Met Gala on Monday, where she embodied the evening’s “Tailored For You” dress code in a bespoke LaQuan Smith gown and cropped blazer. The Oscar-winning actress last attended the star-studded soirée in 2017.
Berry’s sheer, plunging frock was striped with beads and featured a floor-length train. She completed her look with a veiled Jennifer Behr fascinator and diamond-encrusted Cartier jewelry.

Berry wore her dark tresses in a sleek bun, while her makeup included a smokey eye and a nude lip.
This year’s Met Gala theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Based on Monica Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the accompanying exhibit pays homage to Black menswear designers and tastemakers such as Virgil Abloh and Grace Wales Bonner. Co-chairs of the 2025 gala include Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James named honorary chair.

For her previous Met Gala appearance, Berry modeled a sheer Atelier Versace jumpsuit trimmed with beads. The black and gold design also included a scalloped floor-length skirt. 2017 marked the first time the Met Gala honored a living designer with the theme “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.” Kawakubo’s sculptural, avant-garde approach inspired many of the evening’s memorable ensembles, including Rihanna’s and Katy Perry’s.

In April, Berry put a sultry spin on the skirt suit, layering a plunging corset top underneath a black blazer. The sheer bustier—which featured floral embroidery—evoked the actress’ most iconic fashion moment: her Elie Saab gown at the 2002 Oscars. Berry made history that night, becoming the first Black woman to win Best Actress for her role in Monster’s Ball.
Berry also revived this look late last year at an event celebrating the Lebanese designer in Saudi Arabia. Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, and Camila Cabello were also in attendance at 1001 Seasons of Elie Saab.
