San Francisco basketball fans gathered to watch the WNBA draft as the Golden State Valkyries chose Juste Jocyte with the fifth pick in the first round.
Jocyte joins a Valkyries team that will be coached by Natalie Nakase, who spent the last three years with the Las Vegas Aces as an assistant.
The 6-foot Jocyte showcased her scoring skills with a 22-point effort against Belgium in the EuroBasket qualifiers. She’s a versatile player who can play any guard position and is really effective on the pick-and-roll with a toughness and fundamental skills that are impressive for someone who turns 20 on Nov. 19.
CBS News Bay Area is the official media partner of the Valkyries; more than 30 games will air on KPIX and PIX Plus.
