‘Postseason’ Talk

Feels kind of weird to be putting up a game thread in the run up to the Final Four but thanks to FOX we have at least one more Georgetown basketball game this week. The Hoyas will face Washington State for the first time ever in the inaugural College Basketball Crown on Monday night. Maybe this tournament will become a big deal. Maybe it won’t. I think for fans it will be a lot like the NIT in that once your team wins a few games it gets far more interesting.

As of Monday morning Georgetown has only seen Drew Fielder enter his name in the transfer portal. This means the Hoyaswill look a lot like it did when we last saw them play nearly three weeks ago. Obviously Thomas Sorber is still unavailable after turf toe surgery, not to mention the fact that he’s testing the NBA waters. Caleb Williams was seen in team social media so the steady frosh may play for the first time since March 9. Williams missed five of the Hoyas last seven games.

The Cougars, who made the NCAA Tournament last season and made it out of the first round, are missing two of their top players thanks to the portal and the timing of this event. They are spending this season and next season in the WCC with the likes of Gonzaga, St. Mary’s, etc. while the PAC-12 is being rebuilt.

For me, the the best things that could come out of the Crown are 1) a meeting with George Washington in the semis and 2) a chance to finally beat DePaul this season in the finals. Neither of those games seems likely to take place but we can always hope, can’t we?
