Elisabeth Moss was happy to have her baby by her side as she filmed the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

The actress, 42, appeared at 2025 PaleyFestLA for The Handmaid’s Tale and was asked how it felt bringing her baby on set with her as they filmed the final season. “The only thing I would say about that is I feel so fortunate to be able to do that,” Moss replied. “That’s it. Period.”

“So many parents cannot. So that’s what we always say. Any of us who had the privilege of being able to bring our kids or see our kids at work, we would every single time be like, ‘Aren’t we lucky to get to do that?'”

Moss first confirmed she was pregnant and expecting her first baby on a January 2024 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! .

“Are you pregnant or just an incredibly committed method actor?” host Jimmy Kimmel asked Moss as they began chatting.

“A little bit of both,” the Mad Men star replied.

Moss went on to say she had been “really lucky” during her pregnancy journey, adding, “It’s been going really well.”

The actress did not share further details at the time, including when her baby was due or who the father is.

The Handmaid’s Tale is based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name and premiered in 2017. It chronicles America in a dystopian future after a second American Civil War when women are assigned to men to bear children for their wives.

While the plot of the final season has yet to be revealed, Moss told TVLine in May 2024 it will be “big and wild.”

“It definitely has final-season energy,” she said at the time. “[It] goes to many different places, and it is very, very surprising all the way through.”

Creator and showrunner Bruce Miller explained in a November 2022 conversation with DigitalSpy that he wanted to extend the novel’s narrative beyond its abrupt ending.

“Everybody’s like, ‘Who do you think you are, writing more?’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God, it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do, to write the rest.’ Because it’s like: what the hell happened?! Oh my God — it’s the most infuriating ending,” he told the outlet.

“It’s something we never get with just the way the business is set up,” he said. “And also, more importantly, not something everyone would give to the audience.”

While Miller said the series will conclude on their “own terms,” he is not serving as showrunner on the final season, instead staying on as an executive producer and writer. Variety reported in March 2023, that Miller turned his focus to the series’ spinoff, The Testaments.
