Cowboys trade up in fifth round, take Florida LB Shemar James with 152nd pick in NFL draft

The Dallas Cowboys are making quick moves on Day 3 of the NFL draft.

After trading up in the fifth round, Dallas selected Florida linebacker Shemar James with the 152nd overall pick. Dallas sent the 174th and 211th picks to the Arizona Cardinals for pick No. 152.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler ranked James as the 14th-best linebacker in this year’s draft class. James had his most productive season at Florida in 2024, posting 64 tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks. He also came down with a pick, forced a fumble and deflected four passes.

James was a team captain at Florida last season.

Dallas quickly moved up for James after taking Texas running back Jaydon Blue with the 149th selection.
