How much is Scottie Scheffler going to win by?
The No. 1 player in the world has an eight-shot lead (yes, you read that right) heading into the final round of the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. Scheffler, who opened in 61 and has backed that up with rounds of 63 and 66, is at 23 under and leads by eight strokes over a trio of players.
The last time a player led by that many shots through 54 holes? Rory McIlroy at the 2011 U.S. Open.
It seems a foregone conclusion Scheffler is going to wrap up the win in his hometown event, which would be his 14th on the PGA Tour, so perhaps the race for second will be the most interesting thing from Sunday’s final round.

Scottie Scheffler reaches 32 under
On the verge of history in Dallas. If Scottie pars out, he will finish at 252, the lowest score ever in a 72-hole event on the PGA Tour. And there’s a par 5 to finish. Nine-shot lead with three to play.
Erik van Rooyen eagles 14
Erik van Rooyen is 8 under thru 14 holes and hasn’t gained any ground on Scottie Scheffler. That’s how good the world No. 1 is playing. Van Rooyen should finish solo second comfortably, but he trails Scottie by eight shots with four to play.
Scottie Scheffler on verge of scoring history
There’s plenty on the line for Scottie down the stretch. He’s at 30 under with five holes to play. If he gets to 31 under and finishes there, he would shoot 253 for the week, tying the PGA Tour record (Justin Thomas, 2016 Sony Open; and Ludvig Aberg, 2023 RSM Classic) for lowest score in a tournament. Get to 32 under, no one would have hit less shots during a PGA Tour event in history than Scheffler.
Jordan Spieth birdies 18, signs for 62
The Dallas native has his best round of the year and lowest since 2021 with his closing 61 to finish at 19 under for the week. Four rounds in the 60s, and he’ll still likely finish at worst 10 shots worse than Scheffler. A reminder Spieth can complete the career Grand Slam in two weeks at Quail Hollow.
Scottie eagles 9, turns in 30
Sometimes all you can do is laugh. Scottie Scheffler eagles the ninth after an incredible approach from the fairway bunker, then buries the 20 footer and reaches 29 under. He finishes the front nine at 22 under for the week. 6 under for the day.
Four in a row for world No. 1
Another birdie for Scottie Scheffler. He moves to 27 under and eight ahead. Clinical.
Scottie Scheffler gets third straight birdie
Scottie Scheffler can’t stop making birdies. He pours in his fourth in six holes and moves to 26 under, which is the scoring record at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. He still has 12 holes to play. Erik van Rooyen also has four birdies in his first six holes and is at 19 under and seven behind.
Jordan Spieth chips in for birdie, T-2
Spieth is Speith-ing. He moves to 7 under on the day and 17 under for the tournament after chipping in for birdie on the par-4 12th. He’s six shots behind Scottie.
Scottie’s lead down to 6
Well…. Scottie’s approach came up short on the third, leading to a bogey. Meanwhile, Erik van Rooyen made his second straight birdie and now is within six shots, as is Jhonatan Vegas, who chipped in for birdie on the par-3 fourth to move to 3 under after four holes.
Scottie Scheffler gets birdie No. 1
Just like that, Scottie Scheffler moves to 24 under on the week with a birdie on the second. He’s now 17 under on the front nine at TPC Craig Ranch this week and eight shots ahead of Jhonattan Vegas and Erik van Rooyen. The record margin of victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson is 10 shots, which Byron Nelson and Sam Snead both accomplished.
Jordan Spieth moves into top 5
Another Texan is off to a great start on Sunday. Jordan Spieth is 4 under thru 6 holes after three straight birdies on Nos. 4-6.
