“I am heartbroken. There truly are no words to explain what the Chatham community is feeling and will feel for days, weeks and months to come,” said State Sen. Doris Turner, D-Springfield, whose district includes Chatham. “My office and I are ready to assist in any way we can.”
Tarter said Chatham Baptist Church at 1500 E. Walnut St. is the reunification point for families.
Traffic on Walnut between Park Street and Gordon Drive is closed until further notice, Tarter said.
