Darrion Williams, Texas Tech’s standout forward, has declared for the NBA Draft and entered the transfer portal. Although he has a good junior season with Texas Tech, ending with a trip to the Elite Eight, speculation mounts that he might join a rival Big 12 school, with BYU top of the list.
He could still return to Texas Tech, but his decision could be motivated by money, and if his draft stock does not rise, he could return to college if he feels he’ll make more from NIL deals.

CBB Analyst Gives His Opinion on Darrion Williams
It is still early days, and it might take a few weeks or even months before Williams decides his fate. CBB analysts on “The Field of 68” show discussed Williams’ prospects as a professional. He was compared to NBA player George Niang, who plays for the Atlanta Hawks.
“Darrion Williams is more interesting to me… because of his passing ability, because of his shooting ability”, the analyst said.
“I get some George Niang vibes from him when I watch him play and I think that if you look at the career, it’s very easy for me to watch Darrion Williams, they are big bodied, they are a little slower, they really understand the game, they can pass it, they can shoot it, you can play them as point forward.”

“I do believe Darrion Williams is good enough positionally like Niang is, you’re never going to use him as a shutdown defender, but he’s going to be able to play within a scheme, within a team. So it’s easy for me to say there’s guys like him in the NBA.”
It could well be in Williams’ best interest to stay in college, as BYU is reported to be interested in him. The Cougars have already shown that they have money to spend. They brought in highly rated freshman A.J. Dybantsa for a reported $7 million package and also gave $3.5m to point guard Rob Wright III from Baylor.
Texas Tech also has the funds to keep him, as they also gave JT Toppings $4m to return and Lejuan Watts $1.7m to transfer from Washington.
