Not much has gone wrong for the St. Louis Blues lately, but they now have to worry about the status of one of their top scorers.
Blue forward Dylan Holloway was ruled out for the remainder of Thursday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins with a lower-body injury. He played 5:22 in the first period before being ruled out for the remainder of the game by the team.
Holloway’s injury appeared to happen on a hit from Penguins forward Rutger McGroarty with 2:51 remaining in the first period.
McGroarty caught Holloway with a hit in the Pittsburgh end after a scoring chance and the Blues forward headed straight to the bench. Holloway came out for one more shift at the end of the period but didn’t return from the locker room to start the second.
Holloway, 23, has enjoyed a career year in his first year with the Blues. He entered Thursday’s game with 26 goals and 37 assists in 76 games, all career highs.
The Blues signed Holloway and Philip Broberg to offer sheets in the off-season, and after the Edmonton Oilers declined to match, both joined St. Louis on two-year deals.
Holloway’s strong play has helped the red-hot Blues climb back into the Western Conference playoff picture. Winners of 10 straight, the Blues entered Thursday’s game tied with the Minnesota Wild for the first wild-card spot.
