Amazon is expected to launch its first set of satellites into orbit as part of Project Kuiper, an initiative aimed at providing broadband internet access through a network of satellites in low Earth orbit.“There are just two prototype satellites up there right now. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. —Amazon is expected to launch its first set of satellites into orbit as part of Project Kuiper, an initiative aimed at providing broadband internet access through a network of satellites in low Earth orbit.

“There are just two prototype satellites up there right now. So this is the real deal, and the real competition starts today,” research scientist Ken Kremer said.

He added that Amazon has a long way to go to catch up to Elon Musk’s Starlink.
