A familiar face from the Detroit Lions recent past is back in the NFC North. Cornerback Jeff Okudah has signed with the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal.
Okudah was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Lions, the last draft class of deposed GM Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia. A very talented cover man at Ohio State, it just never clicked in three seasons in Detroit for Okudah. He battled some injuries but also wasn’t an impactful player even when healthy. The Lions parted ways with Okudah ahead of the 2023 season, trading him to the Falcons.
After uneventful seasons in Atlanta and then Houston, Okudah now gets a chance to face his old team twice a year with Minnesota — if he makes the Vikings’ 53-man roster.
As a side note, the pick the Lions acquired in the trade with the Falcons was part of another trade package (with Green Bay) that Detroit used to move up and select safety Brian Branch in the 2023 NFL Draft.
