Indian superstar Shah Rukh Khan made a dazzling debut atthe Met Gala 2025 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, USA, on Tuesday, May 6. Khan, one of the biggest living icons of Indian cinema, became the first Indian male actor to attend the Met. The 59-year-old star dazzled on the Met carpet in a sublime black suit with gold accessories and a walking cane. Khan’s outfit, in keeping with the Met’s theme, was crafted by ace Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. In a neat touch, Khan also sported a brooch and a long pendant bearing the letter K — for King Khan.
Speaking about making history at the Met, Khan said, “I don’t know about history, but I am extremely nervous and excited. Sabyasachi has convinced me to come here. I have not done too many red carpets. I’m very shy. For me, it’s the first time. For me, the most exciting thing is that I have little kids who are very excited for the Met. I don’t know if I would have come on my own. When Sabyasachi invited me, they went, ‘wow!’”
Met Gala 2025: Mother-to-be Kiara Advani makes stunning debut
The Met Gala is one of fashion’s biggest nights, held annually on the first Monday (ET) of May. This year, Indian stars like Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh are also making their appearances at the Met, while Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a regular at the ball, is expected to attend for the fifth time.
The Met Gala, often dubbed “fashion’s biggest night out,” is an annual fundraising affair for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, held on the first Monday of May. Started in 1948 by American fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert, the event has grown in prestige and scale over the years and is currently known for attracting an array of stars from film, music, fashion and more— all converging to celebrate the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition.
This year, the Institute’s spring exhibit, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” is the official theme of the night, spotlighting the sartorial tradition of Black Dandyism.
Shah Rukh Khan was recently ranked as the fourth richest actor in the world by Esquire Magazine, with an estimated net worth of $876.5 million. He was the only Indian among the global top 10.
