The New York Islanders have won the draft lottery and will select first overall in the 2025 NHL Draft. 

The Islanders jumped from No. 10 to No. 1 after the lottery. 

The draft will take place from June 27-28 in Los Angeles. 

Defenceman Matthew Schaefer is the top-ranked North American skater on NHL Central Scouting’s final draft rankings of the year. 

This is the first time the Islanders will select first overall since taking centre John Tavares in 2009.
