Stephon Castle Wins Rookie of the Year

Stephon Castle has been voted the 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year, earning the Wilt Chamberlain Trophy. The San Antonio Spurs guard received 482 points compared to 245 points for second-place Zaccharie Risacher of the Atlanta Hawks.

Castle averaged 14.7 points over 81 games this season, along with 3.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 0.9 steals per game. He led all rookies in total points (1,190), steals (75), free throws made (249), and points per game.

Voters place three votes on their ballots, one each for first place, second place, and third place. 5 points are given for each first-place vote, 3 points for a second-place vote, and 1 point given for a third-place vote. The player with the most total points wins the award.

Portland Trail Blazers center Donovan Clingan wasn’t expected to be a challenger for the award, but there was some question about whether he might receive at least one or two second- or third-place votes. Voting, however, was quite top heavy, with Castle, Risacher, and the Memphis Grizzlies’ Jaylen Wells receiving the vast majority of the votes. Only eight players received any votes at all, and Clingan was not among them.
