Day one of the NFL draft is in the books and while no prospects from the Sacramento area were selected on Thursday night, things are expected to change on Friday.
One of the local prospects who could hear his name called is Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo, who starred at Rio Linda High School and Sacramento State.
Skattebo led Rio Linda to a state championship and landed on the national scene after finishing 5th in the Heisman trophy voting while at ASU.
“You could always see that there was something different about him in the way that he carried himself and did things.” says Rio Linda head football coach Jack Garceau.
Skattebo is projected to be drafted as early as the third round, but many NFL analysts project some lucky team will get a great value if he lands in the fourth round.
“He will do whatever you need him to do, if you need him to block, which is my favorite thing to watch him do,” says Garceau. “He’ll play special teams, he’ll run out of the backfield and catch passes… he’s just a complete football player and that’s what he is.”
Rounds two and three of the NFL draft start at 4 p.m. Friday night, while rounds four through seven wrap up on Saturday morning.
