Legendary Packers linebacker Clay Matthews got the NFL draft in Green Bay going on Thursday with a burn of a joke at the expense of his team’s archrivals.
“I just got off the phone with the president, Donald Trump,” Matthews said after being introduced with other Packers greats by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. “He asked me to pass a message along to all 32 NFL franchises.
“So let me tell you what it reads here, all right,” Matthews continued. “It says, my fellow Americans, the Bears still suck.”
The draft is being held in Green Bay for the first time. Round 1 was running Thursday night, with rounds 2-3 set for Friday and rounds 4-7 slated for Saturday.
