Lil Wayne releases Packers-inspired limited-edition apparel collection with Mitchell & Ness in honor of NFL draft

Lil Wayne is taking his Green Bay Packers fandom to yet another level — didn’t know that was even possible.

Wayne and Mitchell & Ness are teaming up on a series of exclusive limited-edition apparel collections, Fanatics announced in a news release. The first? Designed by the multi-platinum artist and inspired by the Pack and his new album.

The clothing collab kicks off at the NFL draft in Green Bay, which runs April 24-26.

“We had to create something that reps the G but still drips with that Tunechi flavor. It’s more than merch,” Lil Wayne said in the news release. “It represents legacy, loyalty and a little bit of luxury for the real ones.”

The first drop — an homage to Green Bay’s rich football heritage — includes T-shirts, hoodies and a jersey, the release said. The designs are inspired by Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter VI” — the album is scheduled to drop on June 6 — and legendary Cheesehead culture.

Where to purchase current and future Mitchell & Ness x Lil Wayne collections

The collections will be available at MitchellandNess.com, Fanatics.com, NFLShop.com, select team online and stadium stores, and the NFL draft for the initial Packers assortment, the release said.

Why is Lil Wayne a Green Bay Packers fan?

Lil Wayne became a Packers fan following the team’s Super Bowl win in 1997 over the New England Patriots in his hometown of New Orleans.

“My pops went to the Super Bowl and, when he came home, he had a bunch of Green Bay everything: towels, cups and all that type of stuff. … I had to use that cup every day and use that towel every other day, so I became a Packer fan like that,” he told the NFL Network in 2017.

Lil Wayne’s love for the team has showed up in his music on several occasions, most notably with “Green and Yellow.” He released his first version of the song to support the Super Bowl XLV-bound Packers in 2011 after Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” became the Pittsburgh Steelers’ anthem. Lil Wayne dropped a new rendition of the song in 2021 ahead of the Packers NFC divisional playoff game vs. the Los Angeles Rams.

There’s also a Brett Favre reference in Lil Wayne’s “Get High Rule The World,” plus he name-dropped the team in his 2023 ESPYs performance of “A Milli.”

And, that love seems to be mutual. The Packers gave the rapper a signed football around Christmas 2020 and he led Lambeau in a rendition of “Roll Out the Barrel” at a playoff game that year.
