Carlos Mendoza said after Wednesday’s game that Edwin Díaz exited due to a left hip cramp.

“We’ll see what we got,” Mendoza said.

Mendoza said the cramps are why Díaz stepped off the mound three times after throwing his first pitch to J.T. Realmuto in the 10th inning.

Edwin Díaz departed Wednesday’s game against the Phillies in the top of the 10th inning with an apparent injury. Díaz had recorded four outs before allowing a go-ahead single to Nick Castellanos. After stepping off the mound three times facing J.T. Realmuto, Díaz signaled for the trainer to come out for a visit, accompanied by Jeremy Hefner and Carlos Mendoza. The 31-year-old pointed to his hip area before leaving the game. Max Kranick came into the game to replace him, recording the last two outs of the frame.
