There were only six left. And soon there will be only five! Matchdays, that is. Because LaLiga is having a busy week – the penultimate of the season!

The title race is becoming increasingly fierce, even though Atlético has probably finally said goodbye to the championship after their blunder at the weekend, a 0-1 defeat at Las Palmas. Ten points ahead of Barcelona are only 18 points left to be awarded hardly catch up, and Real Madrid is still in between – four points behind the Catalans. Both title contenders face a more or less different schedule.

Gameday FC Barcelona Real Madrid Atletico Madrid 33 RCD Mallorca (H) FC Getafe (A) Rayo Vallecano (H) 34 Valladolid (A) RC Celta (H) Alavés (A) 35 Real Madrid (H) FC Barcelona (A) Real Sociedad (H) 36 RCD Espanyol (A) RCD Mallorca (H) CA Osasuna (A) 37 FC Villarreal (H) FC Sevilla (A) Real Betis (H) 38 Athletic Club (A) Real Sociedad (H) FC Girona (A) green = opponent currently in European Cup position

red = opponent currently in relegation zone

Tickets = here

Because while Real Madrid will face many mid-table teams, but no opponent currently in a relegation zone and only one opponent currently in a European Cup spot (Mallorca in seventh), Barça still has a lot to play for: Mallorca, who are also dreaming of a Conference League appearance, plus they will face almost relegated Valladolid and then, at the end of the season, Villarreal and Athletic, who are both fully on course for the Champions League – Spain will gain a fifth CL spot due to the UEFA coefficients! Nevertheless, Real’s opponents with 278 points slightly more than FC Barcelona: 276. Atlético’s opponents only have 237 points.

Clásico on May 11th with possible title decision?

And then there is the Clásico: Besides the cup final on April 26 (22 p.m.), FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will face off one more time in LaLiga. This will take place on the 35th and fourth-to-last matchday, more precisely on May 11 (16:15 p.m. in Barcelona). Theoretically, the championship could then also be decided mathematically, provided the Catalans are nine or more points ahead of Los Blancos after the Clásico. If both teams win everything up until the Clásico and Barça win the Clásico, that would be seven points; if Real wins, it would be just one point (actually two, since Real are unlikely to win the head-to-head after their 0-4 first-leg defeat).

Both teams are essentially aiming for six points before the clash in Barcelona, but LaLiga has recently offered too many surprises and twists, or rather, narrow and late victories. Perhaps, after this busy week, one title rival can deal the other a particular psychological blow with the cup final this weekend, which could also affect the title race – especially since Barça still has two Champions League games to play, and Real Madrid can then rest their feet. Either way: The hot phase of the LaLiga season is here!
