Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has raised a few eyebrows with his team selection for Tuesday’s clash against Real Mallorca.
The German coach has made a number of changes to his starting XI, notably handing Ansu Fati a place in his team.
Flick was asked about the decision before kick-off at Montjuic and spoke about his thinking.
“It’s very important to me that we have everyone playing at a good level,” he said.
“I think Ansu deserved to play. That’s why I decided. Especially after the game against Celta.
“I saw that something had to be changed, and that’s what we decided. If he has a good game today, we’ll all be happy.
“I wouldn’t say it’s a final, but every game is important. We have no choice; we have to think about the next game and the ones after that. The next one is very important; it’s a final.
“Looking at our starting eleven, it’s a very good team. There have been many players who have had a lot of playing time, like Koundé, Cubarsí, Raphinha… we have to be careful with them.”
The move comes after Fati’s frustrations boiled over against Celta. He was spotted booting a water cooler in anger after warming up and then not being used as a sub.
Fati has now been handed the start he craves and will be eager to make a good impression against Mallorca.
