Announcer Pat McAfee was attacked during tonight’s episode of WWE Raw, the night after WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
One of the big title changes at WrestleMania over the weekend saw Jey Uso win the World Heavyweight Championship from GUNTHER.
Jey Uso appeared for a celebration segment tonight with Sami Zayn and Jimmy Uso.
However, appearing in a later separate segment, GUNTHER showed up at ringside and confronted the announcers Michael Cole and Pat McAfee.
Initially, GUNTHER’s anger was focused on Cole, who he grabbed and attempted to lock in a sleeper hold.
Jumping in to save Cole was McAfee, who struck GUNTHER with a forearm sparking a ringside brawl between the two.
The brawl ended with GUNTHER locking McAfee in the sleeper and leaving him laid out, as members of The Pat McAfee Show who were at the show tried to help.
While we’ll have to wait for more news, it appears this may have been done to set up GUNTHER vs McAfee, or it might just have been to write McAfee off TV given he often takes breaks from WWE commentary for his other projects. The NFL Draft takes place soon, which he may have commitments for.
McAfee has had WWE matches in the past, with his most recent ‘full’ match being SummerSlam 2022 against Baron Corbin.
He was taken to the back and didn’t call the last 45 minutes of the show, as Michael Cole went with him as well. SmackDown announcer Joe Tessitore filled in for the rest of the night alongside Cole.
Raw GM Adam Pearce told Cole to take the rest of the night off, but Cole said, “I’m not gonna let some bully stop me from doing my job on WrestleMania weekend”, before going back out to join Tessitore.
