Kristi Noem’s purse stolen from DC restaurant with $3K, passport and government badge

WASHINGTON – Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s belongings were stolen over the weekend at a restaurant in Washington, D.C, including her passport, driver’s license, keys and government access badge.

Both the Secret Service and DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin confirmed the April 20 incident to USA TODAY.

McLaughlin told NewsNation that Noem’s purse contained $3,000 in cash and blank checks.

CNN reported that Noem’s medication and makeup bag were also stolen.

McLaughlin told USA TODAY that Noem’s entire family was in town, including her children and grandchildren, and that she was treating them to dinner, activities and Easter gifts.

The Secret Service has launched an investigation to “trace any use of Noem’s financial instruments,” according to CNN.

Before becoming secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, Noem served as the governor of South Dakota and as a Republican member of Congress.
