Cincinnati Reds vs Baltimore Orioles – April 20, 2025

Cincinnati had won four games in a row and seven of nine before dropping three of the last four games. The Reds look to turn things back around this afternoon after splitting the first two games of this 3-game series in Baltimore against the Orioles. This afternoon’s first pitch is scheduled for 1:35pm ET. This game will be available on MLB Network for those outside of the Cincinnati and Baltimore markets (available on FanDuel Sports Ohio if you are in the Cincinnati market).

Starting Lineups

Starting Pitchers

Brent Suter

We’re not going to dive much into this one. Suter is making a spot start and likely won’t go more than an inning or two before turning the game over to someone else. The Reds called up Randy Wynne, who is a starter, from Triple-A today. He will likely cover more innings than anyone else for Cincinnati on the day.

Charlie Morton

Father time catches up with everyone, eventually. Charlie Morton’s been Barry Sanders-like in his avoidance, but perhaps it’s finally happened. The beginning of 2025 has been nightmare fuel for the now 41-year-old. He’s allowed four or five runs in each of his four starts to begin the season and has an ERA of 8.84. He’s struggled to avoid walks and home runs, handing out 11 walks and hitting a batter in his 18.1 innings this season. In his last two starts he’s walked more batters than he’s struck out.

Last season with Atlanta the splits for Morton were a bit strange. Right-handed hitters hit for a higher average, made a lot more contact, and hit for a lot more power, but they rarely walked. Left-handed hitters walked a bunch against him, but didn’t make much contact, hit for much average, and only shows mediocre at best power.

News and Notes

Randy Wynne called up, Carson Spiers to the IL

The Reds have called up Wynne from Triple-A where he was scheduled to be today’s starting pitcher and placed Carson Spiers on the 15-day injured list. You can read more about Randy Wynne here from our story earlier today.

Luis Mey is still throwing hard

Yesterday against Columbus, Luis Mey struck out the first batter he faced with a 103.2 MPH fastball. Things went south after that, though.
