Timberwolves Make Anthony Edwards Announcement During Lakers Game

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards had a strong fifth NBA season. Averaging a career-high 27.6 points, the 23-year-old guard appeared in 79 games for a Minnesota team that finished sixth in the Western Conference standings.

Drawing the Los Angeles Lakers in the opening round of the NBA Playoffs, Minnesota was forced to start on the road. Tipping off the series on Saturday at Crypto.com Arena, the Timberwolves looked to have no problems through nearly three quarters of play.

Building a lead that reached 27 points in the third quarter, Minnesota was in full control of this game. Then Edwards went down with an apparent injury.

Edwards had 17 points, five rebounds and six assists in 28 minutes at the time of his departure. There was obvious concern, as he went straight to the locker room without attempting to stay in the game. Fortunately, the Timberwolves announced he was just dealing with cramping.

ESPN’s Shams Charania added that Edwards received treatment in the locker room for his cramps. The star guard returned to the game shortly after.

Very durable throughout the regular season, Edwards missed just three games. One of those was due to an automatic suspension after he received his 16th technical foul (via NBA). That was a Feb. 28 contest against the Utah Jazz. Edwards was nearly suspended again for the season finale against Utah, but the league rescinded his technical foul.

Needless to say, Edwards’ health is critical for the Timberwolves. During the regular season, Minnesota outscored opponents by 4.8 points per 100 possessions.
