Large hail causes significant damage in Fremont, Blair

FREMONT, Neb. (WOWT) – Large hail fell in parts of eastern Nebraska on Thursday night, causing significant damage to homes and vehicles.

Several First Alert 6 viewers submitted photos and videos of damage to their vehicles and homes — including destroyed siding and broken windows.

Tornado sirens went off in Omaha, Bennington, and Elkhorn at about 7 p.m. after a funnel touched down north of the city near 72nd Street. The National Weather Service put the tornado’s location about seven miles east of Bennington, near Florence.

Strong winds kicked up a dust cloud big enough to force drivers to pull off Highway 30 near Rogers and North Bend as concerns grew about a potential tornado in that area. A tornado warning was issued for Dodge County at about 6 p.m.
