Editor’s note: USA TODAY has live updates from the first round of the Masters Thursday. Click here for all the lastest news, scores, and highlights.
The 2025 Masters are in full swing now, with the first round finishing up and second-round action set to tee off Friday morning from Augusta National Golf Club. There’s plenty of attention being paid to Justin Rose, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and the other golfers in contention at the first major of the year. But the projected cut line and what golfers make (or miss) the weekend is its own compelling storyline.
Only the top 50 golfers on the 2025 Masters leaderboard at the end of the second round, including ties, make the cut for the third and final rounds on Saturday and Sunday. There were 95 golfers in this year’s field when Thursday’s first round began. Phil Mickelson and Billy Horschel are among the notable names in danger of missing this year’s Masters cut after the opening 18 holes at Augusta National, but the projected cut line remains a moving target with more golf left to be played.
USA TODAY Sports is tracking the action and where the projected cut line could wind up when the second round is complete on Friday. Here are live updates on the current cut line at the Masters, including what golfers could miss the weekend in 2025:

Projected cut line
As of 6:40 p.m. ET on Thursday, with The Masters first round still ongoing, the predictive model used by Datagolf.com projected +3 to be the most likely cut line for the 2025 tournament (38.1% chance). The website determined there was a 31.7% chance it moves down to +4 and a 16.9% chance it moves up to +2.
As Golfweek noted: The Masters cut line was instituted in 1957. From 1957-1961, it was lowest 40 scores and ties. From 1962-2012, it was lowest 44 scores and ties, and those within 10 strokes of the leader. From 2013-2019, the lowest 50 scores and ties, and those within 10 strokes of the leader qualified for the final 36 holes. Beginning in 2020, the lowest 50 and ties qualify for the final 36 holes.
Here’s where the cut line fell in the most recent Masters tournaments:

- 2023: +3
- 2022: +4
- 2021: +3
