Good Friday 2025 draws close, when is it and what to know.

While Ramadan nears its close with Eid al-Fitr, another religious season also reaches its close with the end of Lent drawing near.

Good Friday will help mark the end of the Lenten season.

Lent, Ash Wednesday, Easter, Good Friday, and other holidays surrounding the 40-day season are not on a set date, as the start of the season does not have a fixed date either.

April 13 will mark the start of Holy Week with Palm Sunday, which always falls on the Sunday before Easter. Palm Sunday commemorates the day Jesus entered Jerusalem and is marked by a procession of palms.

What is Good Friday?

Good Friday always lands two days before Easter. It marks the day Jesus Christ was crucified and died.

The holiday is meant to be somber and Roman Catholics are obligated to fast, Father Dustin Dought, the executive director of the Secretariat of Divine Worship of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, previously told USA Today.

When is Good Friday?

The holiday is preceded by Holy Thursday which marks the last supper Jesus had with his apostles and friends and established the Sacrament of the Eucharist, according to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

This year, Good Friday is on April 18, followed by Holy Saturday, which calls on practitioners to spend the day in silent prayer.

Easter Sunday marks the official end of the Lenten season. Easter is celebrated as the day Jesus was resurrected. Easter falls on the first full moon after the spring equinox, meaning it will always fall between March 22 and April 25, according to Catholic Answers.
