MANASSAS, Va. (TNND) — A major leader of MS-13 leader was arrested, according to President Donald Trump.
The suspect’s arrest took place during the early hours of Thursday in Woodbridge, Virginia.
Attorney General Pam Bondi described the operation as “successful.”
“I’m proud to announce that early this morning our brave law enforcement officers conducted a successful operation that captured a top MS-13 national leader. DOJ will not rest until we make America safe again,” Bondi wrote on X.
The suspect is a 24-year-old from El Salvador who was leading the gang for the East Coast. He is considered to be the top three leaders of the MS-13 gang in the U.S.
“He’s in custody this morning, one of the top leaders right here near our nation’s capital,” Bondi said during a news conference in Manassas, Virginia.
Law enforcement had worked for days to arrest.
The joint operation included the FBI, Prince William County Police Department, ATF, ICE, and the Virginia State Police.
Authorities have not released the name of the suspect. However, the suspect was living 30 minutes from Washington D.C., and in the U.S. illegally.
Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, Governor Glenn Youngkin, and interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Erik Siebert are at the news conference Thursday morning.
Trump credited his Border Czar for Thursday’s arrest. “Tom HOMAN is a superstar,” Trump’s post read.
