It promises to be an entertaining day of tennis on day six at the WTA Miami Open with a number of star names sset to take to the courts in the Sunshine State. As always, we here at LWOT predict every single match on the slate, including Emma Raducanu vs McCartney Kessler. But who will advance to the fourth round?
WTA Miami Day 6 Predictions
Clara Tauson vs Paula Badosa
Head-to-head: Badosa 2-1 Tauson
Clara Tauson is among the top-performing players on the WTA Tour this season. She notched her 17th win of 2025 in the second round against Julia Grabher. Paula Badosa, meanwhile, overcame a late wobble to seal victory against the in-form Canadian Victoria Mboko 7-6 in the third. The Spaniard has a slender 2-1 head-to-head lead over Tauson. Expect a close contest with the Dane’s consistent firepower edging it.
Prediction: Tauson in 3
Karolina Muchova vs Elina Svitolina
Head-to-head: Svitolina 2-0 Muchova
Karolina Muchova is now in prime position to sneak into the top 10. She doesn’t defend any points until the grass season. So far, she’s capitalizing on that advantage. She’s made deep runs in her last three tournaments to rise to #13 in the live rankings. The Czech didn’t expend so much energy in her opening match at the WTA Miami. Her opponent, Victoria Azarenka, retired after losing the first set 6-0. Svitolina was equally efficient in beating the resurgent Belinda Bencic 6-1 6-2 to hit double-digit match wins for the season. The Ukrainian is an elite counterpuncher with the ability to frustrate the Tour’s most aggressive players. But Muchova is a well-rounded player with a vast array of shots. She’s also improved considerably since they last met in 2019.
Prediction: Muchova in 3
Iga Swiatek vs Elise Mertens
Head-to-head: Swiatek 1-0 Mertens
Swiatek was cruising in her second-round match against Caroline Garcia, taking the first set 6-2 after half an hour. But things took a drastic turn in the second set. The Frenchwoman led 3-1 and had set point on Swiatek’s serve at 5-4. The second seed did well to save it and won three games in a row to seal a straight sets win. Mertens, for her part, toppled Peyton Stearns 6-4 6-1 to continue her decent start to the year. This feels like an important tournament for Swiatek to win. The title drought is clearly stifling her natural game. She hasn’t made a final since the 2024 French Open, losing mostly to her direct rivals. However, in a matchup where she’ll be unburdened by pressure, expect the Pole to book her spot in the second week.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2
Amanda Anisimova vs Mirra Andreeva
Head-to-head: first meeting
Mirra Andreeva’s 6-0 6-2 victory over countrywoman Veronika Kudermetova was a Tour-leading 20th win this season. It was also her 13th straight win, maintaining her chances of entering the top 5. Andreeva can also complete a remarkable hat-trick of WTA 1000s if she triumphs in Miami. Anisimova is the other woman to win a tournament at this level (Doha) and shook off two straight defeats by beating Mayar Sherif 6-2 6-2 in her Miami opener. While Andreeva’s streak is impressive, this will be her first true test in the tournament. Anisimova is not a player who is intimated by her opponent’s youthful confidence. The American is very much in the conversation of contending for the title and could hit anyone off the court when her game is firing. Right now, it certainly is.
Prediction: Anisimova in 3
